Ward 42 Councillor Fisokuhle Mngadi handed over the keys to three families whose houses have been completed in Ntuzuma, F Section, under R293 Housing Project.

DIGNITY was restored for Ntuzuma families who previously lived in dilapidated houses when they received the keys to their brand-new houses built under the R293 Housing Project. Members of the Xaba, Luthuli and Sikhosana families could not contain their happiness when Ward 42 Councillor Fisokuhle Mngadi handed them the keys to their new house. Councillor Mngadi said: “I am very glad that today we were able to change the lives of three
families that were living in dilapidated houses. 

Today their dignity has been restored. The project has plans to build 30 houses but we are currently busy with 23. We started in March and anticipate to complete this project towards the end of September this year. There are many
people on the list but we hope to continue building more houses this year,” said Councillor Mngadi. Project Manager Lindani Mnguni explained that the project is undertaken in 11 townships within eThekwini namely Magabheni,
KwaMakhutha, uMlazi, Lamontville, Hambanathi, KwaMashu, Ntuzuma, Inanda, KwaDabeka, Mpumalanga and
KwaNdengezi. “Beneficiaries are very excited when their houses are rectified as they were at risk of collapsing.
So far, the project is going well. We are working well with other stakeholders including the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Human Settlements, the business sector, ward committees and ward councilors,” he said. 

However, he said there are challenges like ground conditions where the soil required improvement before they can start with top structure construction. This work includes retaining walls, subsoil drainages, import material (G5/7), and site access, all of which require more money, he explained. One of the beneficiaries, Agnes Xaba, said her old house was in a bad condition. “I do not know where to start, but let me first say thank you to God for making
this day possible. During rainy days, rain would enter from the roof, doors and through the cracks on the wall. Thank you to the Municipality and the Councillor, my dignity has been restored,” said Xaba.
