RESIDENTS of L4 section in ward 83 in uMlazi have welcomed the construction of a new bridge in their area. Ward 83 Councillor Bheki Mngwengwe said the new bridge will link L4 section with various areas of the ward. “Residents were using unconventional ways to visit each other and move around the ward. With the new bridge expected to be completed in time for Christmas, it will be easier for people to connect in a safe manner.” Councillor Mngwengwe said life was difficult for residents of L4 section. “They had to walk through mud and resorted to wearing plastic bags over their shoes as a result. Some residents fell while trying to cross.
It was not safe. One person even died. So, we are very happy that this project will be completed soon. This will mean that our children, the elderly, and everyone in the community will be safe,” said Councillor Mngwengwe. He said there are several other projects underway in the ward to accelerate service delivery. “We have constructed footpaths and passages with the upgrading of roads underway to improve the road network and create a safer environment for road users.” He said several multimillion-rand infrastructure development projects have been undertaken in the ward in the past few months. “Our intention is to bring about social transformation and change the lives of residents for the better.”
