Teams from the City’s Area Based Management Unit conducted a by-law enforcement blitz in Isiphingo recently to assess compliance.
TO ENSURE that local businesses comply with Municipal regulations, teams conducted a blitz in Ward 97, Isiphingo recently. The teams, from the City’s Area Based Management Unit, checked business licences as well as cleanliness, health and safety measures, electricity connections, building regulation compliance, and the disposal of waste. They also checked the expiry date of food to ensure expired goods were not being sold to the public.
Ward 97 Councillor Andrew Beetge welcomed the blitz. “The operation emanates from complaints from the public. Some business owners are allegedly sleeping inside the shops where they prepare food. There is also excessive littering in the area and illegal water and electricity connections. We welcome this blitz which will ensure health and safety compliance,” he said. Regular enforcements will be conducted to ensure health and safety standards are maintained in the area following the blitz.
