ENHANCING service delivery continues to be a priority for the City. Several intervention programmes have been on the forefront of such initiatives which aims to address challenges and escalate service delivery in different wards. Through this multidisciplinary format, various areas have been visited including uMlazi, KwaMashu, and Merebank. During these operations, issues of by-law enforcement, conducting building inspections, fixing water leakages, clearing illegal dumps, repairing streetlights, and checking compliance to fire and health regulations of businesses was conducted.

The enforcement and compliance assessments were carried out by the Metro Police, Environmental Health, the Fire Department, the Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit’s sales and education team, and Business Support and Licensing. These operations are ongoing. The Municipality urges businesses to adhere to the City’s by-laws to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their customers.

The City encourages community members to engage in civic pride initiatives that include keeping public spaces clean. They can do this by following proper waste management practices which includes taking out their refuse on scheduled collection days and avoiding littering and illegal dumping. Residents can work closely with the City by reporting illegal dumping to 031 311 8804 or email dsw@durban.gov.za.
