ETHEKWINI is set to host the 25th TCI Global Conference taking place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre from 9 to 11 November. Themed ‘Clusters and Networks: Engines for economic recovery, sustainability and inclusion’, the conference is expected to provide a platform to create progress in the practice of cluster development, regional competitiveness, and innovation support.
The conference will take place over three days with technical visits to Durbanbased clusters including the Durban Automotive Cluster, Durban Chemicals Cluster, KZN Clothing and Textile Cluster, and the KZN Furniture Cluster on the first day. This will be followed by the official conference and exhibition opening on day two. The final day will include plenary and breakaway sessions before the conference wraps up. The conference is spearheaded through Invest Durban who is mandated to promote economic and social development.
Acting Head of Invest Durban Russell Curtis said: “Participation at the conference will include Durban-based clusters and covers specific areas of economics such as business. It will allow for the exchange of best practices in cluster development internationally as well as showcase cluster initiatives from South Africa and around the world and position South Africa as a thought leader in cluster development.” The conference also bodes well for the City’s economy with an expected 500 delegates expected to attend. Attendees work in associated clusters and related organisations in 111 countries representing, policymakers / government, economic and industrial development institutions and investment promotion among others.
