EThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda announced eThekwini as the host of the Ecocity Summit in 2025.
DURBAN will be the second City in Africa to host the Ecocity World Summit to be held in 2025. This was announced by eThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda recently. The summit was last hosted in Africa by the City of Yoff, Senegal in 1996. Mayor Kaunda received the torch from this year’s host, the City of London.
During the handover, he said: “We are committed to ensuring that Durban will deliver the 2025 Ecocity World Summit in a manner that represents the true spirit of the African continent.” Every two years, the summit brings together urban and environmental practitioners from across the globe to focus on key actions cities and citizens can take to rebuild our human habitat in balance with living systems.
