Easter Message - Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda 2023

FOR many residents and Municipal employees, Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus on the third day, after his crucifixion. This time also provides a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and reflect on peace and forgiveness. During this period, residents travel to various tourism destinations, including eThekwini which boasts beautiful beaches and all-year-round warm weather.

We extend our well wishes to the multitude of visitors that will descend on our shores during this period. We assure them that they made the right decision choosing Durban as their Easter holiday destination. Durban has more to offer. We encourage visitors to obey our by-laws and to respect our law enforcement officers as they work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all. Even though it is a holiday period, we will not be taking a break from service delivery. The City’s essential service departments will be operational and will be on standby to serve residents and visitors.

I am also encouraged by our law enforcement officers and emergency services personnel who have committed to working round the clock this Easter weekend to ensure the safety of all, ready to respond to any emergency. We are aware that many employees will be travelling to nearby towns for church and family gatherings, we urge you to obey the rules of the road. Take a rest when you are tired and don’t text, or drink and drive. Let us avoid carnage on the road over this Easter break.

We hope that you will enjoy a well-deserved rest and return to work ready to serve communities with vigour and a smile. On behalf of the City leadership, we wish residents and employees a wonderful Easter.
