Elation as uMlazi families receive keys to new homes
Jubilation filled the air when two families from uMlazi received the keys to their homes from the Ward 86 Committee member Sifi so Mkhize.
CRACKED walls and leaking roofs are now a distant memory for two uMlazi families who received new houses recently. Cheers of joy filled the air when Ward Committee member Sifi so Mkhize, on behalf of Ward Councillor Sizwe Mthethwa, handed over the keys to the housing beneficiaries from U-Section. “Today we are handing over two houses to beneficiaries under the R293 Housing Project.
These houses are of a good standard with water, electricity, and a running toilet system,” said Mkhize. He said they understand the demand for housing infrastructure in South Africa as a whole, emphasising government’s commitment to providing houses to many deserving residents. “I would also like to urge residents to bear with us and be patient as the project continues,” said Mkhize. Nozipho Shabane, one of the beneficiaries, could not contain her tears of joy after receiving the keys to her house. “My old room had cracks everywhere and the roof leaked on rainy days.
I am an unemployed single parent, and I did not have money to fix the house. I then applied for housing rectification and thankfully, my application was approved,” she said. “Today is a dream come true and I believe that God works in mysterious ways. I would like to thank the Provincial Department of Human Settlements, eThekwini Municipality, the Ward Councillor and Ward Committee for this wonderful house,” said a grateful Shabane. Another beneficiary, Nonhlanhla Mhlongo, also thanked everyone who played a role in the project. “I have been patiently waiting for this house and today I feel like I’m dreaming. Thank you for my beautiful house.”
