House provides gogo with new lease on life

Pensioner Lydia Linda-Nsele, 90 expressed gratitude to the Municipality when she received keys to her new house.

NIGHTS of fear and uncertainty have come to an end for an Inanda pensioner who received keys to her brand-new home from ward 3 Councillor Mpilenhle Mkhize. Lydia Linda-Nsele, 90, who has been living with her family of seven in a dilapidated house in the deep rural Inanda, eTafuleni (KwaMthethwa), said the new house presents a new start for her entire family as they weathered the storms in uncertainty and fear of her previous house collapsing.

Singing and humming worship hymns, Linda-Nsele couldn’t contain her happiness as she thanked the ward leadership. “It is through God’s grace. When Councillor Mkhize and his team first visited my family, I was in disbelief. I
am extremely grateful for the kind gesture and applaud their swift response,” she said. Councillor Mkhize said the
Linda-Nsele family is one of many families that will receive brand-new houses in the ward. “We are excited about these new developments, not only in ward 3, but throughout the City.

EThekwini Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda alluded to how the entire City is at its rebuilding phase, and we are heeding that call,” said Councillor Mkhize. Up the road from Gogo Linda-Nsele’s house, Nomajeje Dlamini, 73, also
opened doors to her new home for the very first time. Dlamini, who lives with her granddaughter and great granddaughter, thanked the Councillor and stakeholders for presenting her with this great gift.

The houses handed over to the recipients came equipped with water tanks, running water and fully wired prepaid electricity. Councillor Mkhize said more development projects, including road infrastructure repairs, are in the pipeline for the ward.
