Mhlasini residents, in ward 60 were connected to the electricity grid.
IT WAS an electric moment when residents of ward 60 in Mhlasini were connected to the electrical grid for the first time. The Municipality has lit up their lives, quite literally, as the first electrical powerline of the Mhlasini Electrification Project has been completed. Ward 60 Councillor Fakazi Mdletshe said the project aims to provide electricity to more than 25 000 houses in the ward. It was launched in October last year and has received praise from the community for changing their lives. Said Councillor Mdletshe: “We have completed one of our most successful projects in the ward.
We are pleased to have expedited service delivery to residents of Mhlasini.” He said the area was previously plagued illegal connections “The implementation of the project was hindered by illegal connections, tampering and theft of electrical infrastructure. However, words cannot express how excited we were to officially switch on the lights on 9 March.” He thanked residents for their patience during the project. Councillor Mdletshe outlined further plans for the ward. “We’re currently rolling out a road infrastructure project simultaneously with phase two of the electrification project. We assure residents that we will continue to promote service delivery in the ward.”
