New traffic lights reduce accidents

New traffic lights installed in ward 95.

RESIDENTS from ward 95 who use the Sbu Magwanyane (M35) and Ndabezitha Road (Kwa-Boxer) intersection are enjoying a new set of traffic lights that have been installed by the City. The traffic lights were installed at the intersection after a request was made by the ward councillor.

Ward 95 Councillor Thokozani Xulu said the traffic lights were installed to provide safety for motorists as well as residents who shop at Boxer and at the nearby stores. “This intersection was heavily congested and was prone to accidents.” He added: “These traffic lights were requested by residents.

I subsequently petitioned the City’s eThekwini Transport Authority and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and today I’m happy to share the good news with road users that this intersection will now be safe to use thanks to this new set of traffic lights.” Chairperson of the Folweni Taxi Owners Association Amon Mabhida said: “I want to thank the City for coming to our aid. The association and road users in general will benefit immensely. It has almost been a month now, and there has been no incident reported which I attribute to the new traffic lights.” He said previously there was a high rate of accidents at the intersection.
