Rehabilitation of Inanda road begins

Residents of Ward 107 are pleased that work to upgrade Somlandela Road has started.

WORK to repair Somlandela Road in Inanda, which was damaged during the floods, has begun. Only one lane of the road is being used because of the severe damage. Somlandela Road is one of the main roads in the area and is used by trucks transporting goods and motor vehicles. Work started in March and is expected to be completed by June. Project Site Manager Moses Msimang is confident that the project will be finished within the stipulated timeframe. “The project is progressing well. The team is currently placing gabions on the damaged side of the road, adjacent to the bank of the river.

The project is 115 metres long. The team is working hard to ensure that all goes well,” said Msimang. He said locals have also been employed to work on the project. Resident Siyanda Mdletshe commended the good work done by the City. “Once complete, the road will be safe to use and will also ease traffic congestion. This is a main road used by motorists and pedestrians. We can’t wait for it to be finished so that buses can start using this road again. After it was damaged in the floods, buses stopped travelling along this route which inconvenienced residents.
