Retaining walls change the lives of ward 104 residents
The construction of retaining walls for houses in KwaMashu H-Section in ward 104 have been completed.
TO ENSURE the safety of residents in KwaMashu H-Section in ward 104, the construction of retaining walls, speed humps, and guard rails have been prioritised. Retaining walls have been completed at several houses in the ward, with local labour and contractors used to promote job creation.
Ward 104 Councillor Sizwe Ndlovu said the wellbeing and safety of residents is important to him. “I have prioritised the construction of retaining walls, speed humps, guardrails, and the improvement of roads in the ward. We know that much work still needs to be done, especially following the heavy rains in April and May this year.” He said most of the retaining walls were requested by residents before the floods this year. “We are very happy with the work that was done, and that local labor was used during construction. Local companies were also able to sub-contract.” Resident Kholeka Thwala said she was happy with the construction of the retaining wall at her home. “They have done an excellent job; my family now feels safe.
We had a problem every time it rained with water flooding our property from the main road. We would have to try divert the water flowing into the house which was difficult,” she said.
