Site visits to City’s Human Capital Centres of Excellence

A site visit was conducted of the main Centre of Excellence on Archie Gumede Place. The Centre of Excellence is temporararily closed due to renovations. Job applications can be dropped off at the SEDA Office, 381 King Dinuzulu Road, Berea.

HUMAN Capital senior officials conducted an oversight visit to the Human Capital Centres of Excellence (HCCoE) recently. The centres are situated in communities where access to computers and free Wi-Fi is difficult. The City had stepped in and has provided 25 computer labs in disadvantaged communities. In line with the concept of Smart Cities, the City has established numerous HCCoE around the eThekwini Municipality. These facilities are fully functional and equipped with computers and free Wi-Fi which is available to both internal staff and the public.

The site visit started off at the flagship centre, Archie Gumede Place where the team viewed the renovations underway and got a glimpse of how the centre will look after renovations are done. Thereafter, the team visited computer labs in KwaDabeka, Cleremont Thusong Centre, Nagina, and Hammarsdale before ending their tour at Warwick Triangle (SEDA).
Deputy City Manager of Corporate and Human Capital Kim Makhathini said it was important to take these centres to the next level to ensure more community involvement.

Head of Human Capital Sihle Mkhize committed to prioritising and addressing the challenges raised during the oversight visit to ensure that the public get maximum usage of the computer labs. He said the City is committed to eradicating unemployment and upskilling residents, especially the youth. “This is a much-needed resource and widely used by the public. It saves jobseekers from spending money on transport and data costs for their assignments, applying for jobs, bursaries and searching for work and study options,” said Mkhize.
