The best of local designers to showcase at the Durban July
‘Out of this world’ fashion will be the order of the day at the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
FASHIONISTAS and invited guests were left in awe and heaped praise on the ‘Out of this world’ creations showcased by designers during the Hollywoodbets Durban July fashion experience preview. The event took place at Gateway Mall on 23 June. The preview included three categories namely, Young Designers, Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) Rising Stars, and Invited Designers. The preview gave a glimpse of fashion to be showcased at Africa’s greatest horseracing event.
The R5 million record stake horseracing extravaganza takes place on Saturday, 1 July. The designers also aptly demonstrated how they interpreted this year’s theme ‘Out of this world’ during the Durban July media launch which took place on 21 June at the Oceans Mall Courtyard in uMhlanga. The media launch unpacked the City’s readiness to host the event. Deputy Chairperson of the Economic Development and Planning Committee Councillor Phili Ndlovu said: “Fashion remains an important part of the Durban July experience, providing local designers with massive exposure.” “EThekwini Municipality’s Fashion Development Programme, under the banner of the DFF, has partnered with Gold Circle to present the Durban July Fashion Experience. About 160 emerging and established designers, as well as models will benefit from this partnership in terms of skills development and exposure. Of these designers, 40 are the product of the Municipality’s Fashion Development Programme.
The most creative designers are awarded with business development prizes,” she added. Stephen Marshall, Gold Circle Event and Marketing Executive said: “Even after 127 years, the event continues to grow and evolve, providing mentorship and access to market opportunities.” Devin Heffer, Brand and Communications Manager at Hollywoodbets said they are proud to be part of an event that will be a major driver for tourism and an economic boost for the City.
