Water starts flowing at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital

PIPED water started flowing to Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital on 19 February, following the completion of the construction of the 400mm diameter steel pipeline. The construction was done parallel to a temporary line which assisted in supplying water to areas such as Glebelands, Mega City and surrounding areas, while the permanent pipeline was being constructed.

Head of Water and Sanitation Ednick Msweli thanked his team who worked tirelessly on the construction of the pipeline which required re-routing to avoid damage to the South Coast Bridge on the Umlaas Canal. While work to construct the permanent and temporary connection was underway, nearby affected areas and the hospital were supplied with water through tankers. City technicians are also working hard to resolve ongoing power failures which are affecting water supply in various parts of the City.

In other areas, the interruption of water supply is due to power outages compounded by loadshedding, which subsequently affects the operation of bulk water treatment works and pump stations. This leads to water outages in several areas across the City. The City appeals to residents to be patient when repair work is underway. siphelele.buthelezi@durban.gov.za
